In order to explore feminist themes I have been painting portraits of women with facial injuries. It concerning that, more often than not, if one sees a woman with a black eye they assume that it was a result of domestic abuse. This indicates how wide spread yet strangely accepted as a way of life the problem is. I chose to explore this assumption by painting victims of domestic abuse alongside women who have been injured doing something they love doing like riding a bike or playing hockey.
