Artwork > The Melbourne series

These portraits are based on prisoner records from 1880's-1920's, gleaned from the Victorian Police Museum. Concerned with the feminine identify from both a contemporary and historical perspective, it provides a window into the often difficult life of a woman in Melbourne at the turn of the 20th century.
These portraits form the basis of Shaping Change a project that explores the boundaries that these women crossed while breaking the mould of ‘the good woman’.
